The Union for African Population Studies (UAPS), in partnership with the American Institutes for Research (AIR), is proud to announce the selection of the third cohort of fellows for the P3 Support for AfRes-Fellows Program. The cohort comprises nine exceptional scholars, each awarded a $10,000 grant to support their research over the coming year.
Fellows will utilize these funds for vital research activities, including data collection and writing of papers or theses. Key deliverables include participation in a training workshop in August/September 2026, the development of at least two scientific abstracts, and the publication of at least two research papers within the grant period.
Meet the Cohort 3 Fellows and Their Research Topics:
- Floriane Nsabimana (Burundi) – IFORD: “Spatial and Predictive Modelling of Maternal Mortality in Burundi: An Analysis Based on Socio-demographic and Health Data”.
- Sadibiè Bani Lare Monkouna (Togo) – University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC): “Therapeutic pathways, ‘vaginal rejuvenation’ products on the market and their health implications: between female agency and bodily vulnerability”.
- Elia Magwaja Mwakalukwa (Tanzania) – Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences: “Association between drought events and healthcare service utilization for Diabetes and Hypertension in Tanzania mainland”.
- Gugulethu Nokwazi Mabuza (Eswatini) – University of KwaZulu-Natal: “Towards an evidence-informed framework for enhancing diagnostic capacity in patients suspected of genital schistosomiasis in Eswatini”.
- Komi Ameko Azianu (Togo) – Université Joseph KI-ZERBO: “Migration and translocality in Burkina Faso: Drivers of resilience for rural households in the face of environmental crises”.
- Bezawit Afework Mesfin (Ethiopia) – Addis Ababa University: “Group Antenatal Care Model to Improve Maternal Mental Health, Neonatal Outcomes, Women’s Empowerment, and Acceptability in Gamo Zone, Ethiopia: A Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial”.
- Funmilayo Modupe Omodara (Nigeria) – University of Ibadan: “Improving Menstrual Health Management Among Adolescent Girls with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities in Ibadan, Nigeria: A Cluster-Randomized School-Based Intervention”.
- Jonas Horlali Dzeble (Ghana) – University of Ghana: “Involuntary Immobility and Subjective Well-being in Ghana’s Volta Delta”.
- Kayongo Christine Cynthia (Uganda) – Makerere University: “Non-communicable diseases and health-related quality of life among older persons in the Busoga region of Uganda: prevalence, risk factors, and public health implications”
