Amr is an Assistant Professor at Cairo University and a Postdoctoral Researcher at Huaqiao University. He specializes in demography, migration studies, and youth health, with over ten years of experience in population research and policy analysis.
He received his Ph.D. in Demography from Shanghai University, where his research examined migration patterns and their social and economic implications for young populations. His work focuses on migration, inequality, disability, and socioeconomic determinants of health, with particular attention to Egypt and the wider MENA region.
Dr. Abdelwahed’s professional experience spans international and national institutions. He worked as a researcher at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Egypt’s national statistics office, and served as a consultant for The Population Council in Egypt, focusing on youth and migration issues in the region. Additionally, he was selected for the prestigious Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) 2019 at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria, further strengthening his international research network.
Dr. Abdelwahed’s current research explores migrant integration and youth development in rapidly urbanizing contexts, including Chinese megacities. His work aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for policies that enhance youth well-being, migration, and social inclusion across Africa and the Middle East.
He is an active member of the Young African Statisticians Association (YASA) and contributes to initiatives that promote data-driven policy and capacity building in the field of population and development.
